Shucker’s Oyster Bar & Grill

I only stopped to get some take out. However, it was Friday night. Happy Hour. It was a challenge finding a parking spot, but that’s evidently because it is so freaking good. I went to the bar, and was promptly asked what I wanted to drink. I only ordered a beer, but it appeared at Warp Speed. My Take Out order was taken, and my food was prepared so quickly that I barely had time to swill my beer down. Points for quick and friendly service! I ordered Fish & Chips, and Fried Shrimp with sides of Green Beans, Mac & Cheese, and Fried Okra. I paid, and was promptly brought my change. I over tipped because outrageously good service is a huge deal to me, which is exactly what was delivered. After an almost fifteen minute drive to my destination, I was a little dubious as to the probable quality of fried seafood that had been steaming itself in a Styrofoam box. I was young and foolish. The fish was perfectly cooked. And I don’t know what kind of voodoo magic they use when they cook this stuff, but it was still crispy! Shrimp? Treated with as much respect as a shrimp that is really great can get, it was still crispy, not rubbery, sweet and “shrimpy”. Clearly, whoever prepared the seafood has made a pact with Satan. It was amazing. The Green Beans? Clearly they make a ton of these for service. But they had great color, they weren’t mushy, and the flavor was like what Mom cooked when I was a kid. And Mom grew up on a farm & can cook some flavor into some beans. More points. The Fried Okra? I would honestly go back there and just order a plate of nothing but the Okra. Despite it being okra, and having been forced to ride in a car for fifteen minutes, it was crisp, tasty, as absolutely slime-free. The mac & cheese was pretty good, but I’m biased, and I think even bad mac & cheese is pretty good, so I’m not the guy to ask. Also had a side of slaw. It was fresh. It was cool. It was the perfect side with everything else. So? Shucker’s? Yep. Some kind of voodoo magic. And I want way more of it.
