Benny Blancos
Solid NY slice. The trickiest thing to do in Denver is to reproduce the NY slice so that one can critique sauce or the amount of cheese. The altitude is a huge factor here. Benny’s uses a higher protein flour than most places to achieve a crispy thin crust that is phenomenal fresh. Day old slices do not translate as well. The sauce is legit and they do not have to resort to weird gimmicks to sell pizza. $2.50 for a plain cheese slice is very NY. You can get 2 slices and a can of soda for $6. There just isn’t anyone else doing this in Denver. There are other good slices here but they are hard to find and the second a place starts to charge $4 for a cheese slice I know it is not an actual NY place. People get too cute with what should be a pretty basic necessity. Don’t expect parking and if it is after 1am Fri-Sun there will be a line and don’t expect anything but cheese or pepperoni. Showing up here at 2:30 AM and asking for spinach, feta, banana peppers, and pineapple on a slice could get you hurt.
